Blueberries are so sweet and juicy when in season that I find it hard to stop eating them during the warm summer months. They are so delicious! But did you know that if frozen the right way, these delicious morsels can be enjoyed year-round? In other words, it means you get a taste of summer in the dead cold winter! So get ready, as I am going to show you three super simple ways of how do you want freezer blueberries on hand and so that they come out in perfect condition every time.
Begin with rinsing blueberries in colander. Doing so will help to eliminate dirt or insects as well. Drip off the remaining water after washing, so as not to make your blueberries too moist. Then, simply spread blueberries on top of a parchment lined baking sheet. They are at least (e.g. not piled up on top of each other). Then using a spatula just spread them out and refrigerate the tray in fridge for 2-3 hours. Get those berries nice and rock solid frozen.
Once you have your blueberries frozen, go ahead and transfer them to freezer bags or airtight tupperware containers. Don't forget to press the air out of the bags before sealing Freezer burn prevention folks! Then put the date on your bags or containers. That way you will know how long they were in the freezer. What better way to ensure your blueberries do not go waste and have them at hand for the next six months than freezing.
Blueberries can spoil fast if they sit in the fridge for an extended period of time. For one reason, you can freeze them to save for another time. Blueberries becoming soft or mushy is a warning that the fruits are well on their way to spoilage. Therefore, you must freeze them immediately to avoid further rotting. This way you can save the blueberries for a less bland time and still have that delightful flavor!
One of our favorite snacks are frozen blueberries, especially during the summer! Please eat them frozen for an even cooler taste, or mix with other fruits from your freezer to make fruit salad! They also work fine in smoothies! And just blend them in the blender with some yogurt or milk and make a paste out of it. A fast, yummy and healthy way to have a drink me think!
